October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The month of October is commonly recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to The American Cancer Society, “This year an estimated 268,600 women in the United States will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, and 62,930 women will be diagnosed with in situ breast cancer. An estimated 2,670 men in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.”
Routine screening for breast cancer is performed in a variety of ways, and in combination may lead to earlier detection and greater outcomes for many. Routine screening begins with you, by performing monthly self-breast exams. Clinical breast exams are recommended and should be performed by your clinician during an annual examination along with a yearly Mammogram. In some cases, breast ultrasound, and or an MRI may be recommended.
If you have questions about your breast health, we encourage you to speak with your FEM Centre provider. Call today to schedule your appointment.
